Drug OD fatalities up for 11th consecutive year; not one was due to marijuana - Boing Boing

Our obscene national drug policy.  Big companies like Purdue Pharma (maker of OxyContin) spend a lot of money, get the approved uses of their heroin analogues vastly expanded, and some doctors hand them out like Halloween candy.  Many people die. But we put people in jail for marijuana.

"Federal data to be released this week through theJournal of the American Medical Association shows that drug overdose deaths rose for the 11th year in a row. Most were accidents involving prescription painkillers (specifically, opioids like OxyContin and Vicodin)."

It's a goddamn travesty.
