Murder On 1st Place and Henry Street Yesterday (!)

This is highly disturbing. George Weber, a radio reporter and blogger (whom I've only just now learned about) was brutally murdered this weekend in his apartment on Henry at 1st Place. That is just over a block away from me.

Coverage in the Brooklyn Paper and the New York Post. From the Post:
Weber, who would have turned 48 today, was discovered half-naked in his bed shortly before 10 a.m. inside his apartment with his throat slashed and more than a dozen stab wounds to his neck.

His hands and feet were bound with duct tape, sources said.

There were no signs of forced entry at Weber's apartment on Henry Street in Carroll Gardens, sources said. The bathtub spigot was running and the place had been ransacked, said one source, who described the home as "a bloody mess."

Detectives were investigating the possibility he knew his attacker.

George's blog can be found here.

It's also a disturbing reminiscent of that stabbing murder on Carroll Street last year. Both victims were killed in their apartments, with stab wounds to the neck.

This is some seriously disturbing stuff.

Update: Coverage from Gothamist and The NY Daily News.

  1. Not only do those two sound similar but there is another ALMOST IDENTICAL unsolved murder of a hairdresser who lived on smith street in 9/08.(Francis De La Hoz - article in the Newsday archives and mcbrooklyn) VERY SCARY - and why isn't this a big deal? Shouldn't area men be being warned of the similarities betweent these crimes?

  2. In both the case from last year and in this one, there is speculation that the victims brought home men they had met that night for a rendevous, and those men ended up murdering them. I live in the neighborhood, and while this is scary, it makes me feel better that the acts were not random. Be careful who you meet on the internet!

  3. Yeah be careful who you meet on the interet, especially underage males you solicit for rough sex.

Craigslist has been pretty great to me in terms of buying and selling household goods . . . I sold a computer monitor and router quickly and easily, and have gotten some great furniture pieces cheap.

But for sex? If one good thing comes from this tragic story, I hope more people realize they are taking their life in their hands with something like this.

Anon @ 8:55 3/24, I had forgotten about that Francis de la Hoz story . . . I hope the local precinct is going back and reviewing those cases for similar MO. I doubt it was the same kid, considering he was from Queens, but it's worth looking into.
