LICH: Back In Court Today

LICH Back to Court Tuesday Morning in Brooklyn

Welcome back my friends, to the show that never ends.

"On Tuesday, community groups, doctors and the Public Advocate will continue arguing their case for Long Island College Hospital (LICH) before Justice Baynes at state Supreme Court in Downtown Brooklyn. The groups, which have been fighting LICH's closure since January 2013, say that some of the RFP bid evaluators did not follow the rules laid out by the court. "

Sterling Sues NBA

Donald Sterling Calls Off $2 Billion Deal, Plans To Sue NBA

In case you thought it would be a slow summer for racist leathery billionaire news.  And is it possible that no one has created a "deal with it" gif for this guy yet?

"Donald Sterling's attorney, Maxwell Blecher, says that Donald Sterling has withdrawn his support for the $2 billion sale to Steve Ballmer. Blecher further states he's been instructed to proceed with a $1 billion federal suit against the NBA."

The Worst Person In The World

Open Thread: How Does George Will Walk the Streets Without An Umbrella?

George Will. Even when I was a naive conservative teenager I always thought Will was a smug douche.
"This was before Will was recognized as the thoroughgoing disgrace to the craft of journalism that he is, before we knew that he was a working advisor to the Reagan campaign in 1980 while masquerading as an independent observer in his column and for ABC. It was before he proved himself to be a big old 'ho for the crooked Conrad Black. It was before he proved himself to be a smug, petulant dilettante who is willing to flirt with racism — Go back and study his coverage of the Jesse Jackson campaign in 1988 — and who is willing to throw himself whole hog into climate change denialism, and, now, today, at Hiatt's House Of Hacks, George Will is someone who has nothing better to do than mock the current movement on America's campuses to try and cope with the problems of rape and sexual assault, and trolling its victims while jacking it into his dogeared copy of Bartlett's."

G Train Improvements

G Train to Get Less Bad
Little things. But good things.
"Starting today, afternoon and evening service on New York's most complained about route will increase by 25 percent. DNAinfo reports that, in addition to more trains, riders can look forward to "public announcement systems at all 12 G train stations, trains that run at more evenly stopped intervals and trains that stop in the same place on platforms," just like on a real subway line."

Now about the length of those trains . . .

NY Times Foreign Coverage Borders On Disinformation

NY Times, Reuters Whitewash US Drone Strike Killing of Mehsud From Taliban Reasons for Karachi Airport Attack
Another example. Bizarre, because this important detail is being reported in many other places, including lots of NYC based new media.  But the paper of record apparently doesn't think it's readers should know.
"Karachi's Airport has resumed operations today, but a deadly late night attack shut it down for many hours overnight. It appears that ten militants entered the airport Sunday night, most likely uniformed as airport security personnel, and killed up to 18 people before they were killed by airport security and rapidly responding military units. The TTP, Pakistan's Taliban, has claimed responsibility for the attack. The New York Times and Reuters, however, chose to be very selective in how they reported the TTP's claim of responsibility. Both news outlets left out the TTP's prominent mention of the US drone strike in November that killed TTP leader Hakimullah Mehsud in describing the TTP's reasons for the attack. By contrast, AP and the Washington Post included the TTP's reference to the drone strike."

Murder At Gitmo

n the June issue, Harper's Magazine has published the eyewitness account of a military policeman describing the events of the night of June 9, 2006, at the Guantánamo Bay detention camp, when three prisoners died under mysterious circumstances that the U.S. government has sought to pass off as a series of synchronized suicides. The account is one of a group of previously unnoted documents, uncovered by researchers at Seton Hall Law School, that collectively demonstrate that the government's own investigation did not support its claims about the deaths. They are the subject of a new report, Uncovering the Cover Ups: Death Camp in Delta. I put six questions to Professor Mark Denbeaux about the report:
The rot goes deep.  Eric Holder has been an atrocious Attorney General.
